Steve Salit UP

Steven Salit, president of Salit Auto Sales, started the dealership back in April of 1995. After selling his previous business, he decided to pursue his hobby and start a career in the auto industry. Steven, otherwise known as Steve, always had a knack for cars. It all started with his first car, a 1963 Dodge Dart that he acquired for $100, and expanded to literally hundreds of cars that he would buy and drive just for fun. The 1980’s became his testing ground when he would buy and sell cars just for the love of the automobile. This eventually led to his career change that would take his hobby to a whole new level.

Steven likes to tell the story of his purchase of a brand new 1982 Buick Regal. After taking delivery of the car, he began to notice terrible body noise. He immediately had a word with the sales manager, who informed him that all that could be done was to turn up the radio and block out the sound. This answer was both typical and terrible, but expected. Steve’s approach to dealing with a customer’s problems is in sharp contrast to that of the sales manager in this story. He knows that the most important part of a sale is customer satisfaction and not a fast buck.

For reference, Steve has an extensive collection of Motor Trend magazines that date back to the early 1960’s. If you are looking for information as to how the industry evolved from sales practices to automotive design, he’s the man to ask. He also has a unique ability in locating hard to find vehicles. If there is a specific car that a customer is looking for, he will find it.

He currently has a 1973 Plymouth Duster with less than 35,000 miles on it that his grandfather purchased brand-new. The car is still in its original showroom condition. Only on rare occasions can Steve be seen tooling down the road in this relic of the past. For everyday use, Steve prefers to go topless. No matter the car, convertible is his thing; whether a Mustang or Sebring, they all make the grade.

Jerry Salit UP

Jerry Salit started working for Salit Auto Sales in its early stages at the Highland Park location. Jerry also has the family innate love for cars. His most memorable car was a 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, which was like no other. Back in the day, this car was way ahead of its time with its very own onboard computer, Digital dash and a very cool electronic compass. Since selling the Grand Prix, Jerry has had trouble finding "the right car". He has literally driven everything from BMW’s to Lexus's, and he has been unable to find that same sense of drive. Many of us argue that no car can compare to your first, and for Jerry, this is certainly the case.

Currently, Jerry is by far the authority on ride comfort. He easily drives 3000 plus miles a month, forcing him to change his personal car quite frequently. Like his father, Jerry knows that nothing can be better for him than making his hobby his source of income.

His job description is quite complicated. Initially, he was simply a wholesale buyer, and he sold cars as we all do. However, in the latter years, he has become the single formidable force in our advertising department. He aided in the development of this website and initiated the development of our entire advertising system. He is well known for doing things right the first time.

As our entire business expanded, we needed someone to "step up to the plate" and take care of the simple things that no one wants to do. These include but are not limited to, ordering everything from stickers with our names on them to boxes of purchase orders. With Jerry at the helm, we can always count on having the cars serviced and cleaned before delivery.

Alan Salit UP

Alan Salit was born with a distinct interest in cars. As a young boy, he displayed a great interest in all things that had a motor and four wheels. At one time, the Corvette ZR1 was his favorite, which was evident in all the models of the vehicle that he built. Young Alan was not only able to spot a speeding Vette, but he also knew the year, make and model of each car just by sighting a vanishing glimpse. Alan had his way with cars. When he was only 14, he became a great valet parker. He would do anything to convince others why he should drive their car. Although in the state of New Jersey one has to be 17 in order to drive, Alan seemed quite capable at this young age.

His general knowledge of the auto industry is top notch. It can be said that no one at Salit Auto Sales has more experience with insurance and general motor vehicle laws than Alan. He has become an expert in detecting fraudulent Motor Vehicle documents as well as fake New Jersey inspection stickers. One may ask, so how does this knowledge help the end buyer? It’s very simple; if someone were to trade-in a car that has a phony inspection sticker, Alan’s red flag goes up immediately. He begins to question why the car couldn’t pass inspection the legal way. As Alan has shown us, all Motor Vehicle documents have dates and other miscellaneous information hidden in their processing numbers, which can aid in fraud detection.

Alan has become the backbone of Salit Auto Sales. He not only takes part in our sales force; he also handles all of our finances as well. Alan truly understands how to run a business. Our being a successful car dealership is a direct result of his discipline. At the end of the day, it is clear to all of us that without Alan, this company could not have achieved this kind of success.

Michael Kornfeld UP

No successful company can be complete without a strong record of customer service. Meet Michael “Mikey” Kornfeld, Mr. Customer Service.

Before he ever heard of the name Salit, Mikey, the son of an accomplished diesel mechanic, was into cars big time. When the Salit’s moved to town, Mikey became fast friends with Jerry and the rest of the family. All the boys began driving at the same time. Each had their favorite car, and Mikey was no exception. His favorite car, way back when, was a white 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme coupe with a blue ragtop. The ragtop gave way to a red 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible, which he still drives. Of course, most of his time is now spent driving a minivan.

Mikey is known locally and now nationally, as one of the foremost customer service people in the used car industry. His special efforts to go out of the way to help current and future customers have resulted in loads of repeat business. Mikey knows that there are thousands of car dealers. His primary goal is to give you the reason to choose Salit Auto Sales.
